Sarı Konak
Visualizing Local Taste
The Brief
Sarı Konak is a cooperative operating in a historical mansion in Kastamonu, where they produce and sell local items made from ancient einkorn (siyez) flour, such as cookies, crispy crackers, and breadsticks (galeta). The cooperative's primary need was a cohesive packaging design system that reflects institutional integrity and matches a product range consisting of handmade, local goods.
Our approach to this brief was to ensure differentiation between two women's cooperatives operating in the same city yet offering distinct products, while creating a memorable design solution that highlights craftsmanship and is deeply rooted in Kastamonu's culture. By blending traditional motifs with clean, modern aesthetics, we crafted a distinct visual identity that communicates the authenticity of ancient siyez flour products. Every packaging detail was carefully curated to honor local heritage, foster deep consumer trust, and elevate artisanal baked goods into a competitive market position, ensuring lasting commercial value for the cooperative community.
While creating the designs, we made a concerted effort to select eco-friendly materials and developed reusable, refillable packaging systems. For instance, the packaging was designed so that a customer purchasing pickles could return to the cooperative with the very same jar and reuse it for their next pickle purchase.
Beyond delivering design solutions, we also provided comprehensive training sessions for the cooperative women on branding, bringing local values into commercial life, and sustainable marketing strategies. By doing so, we did more than just supply external design services—we empowered these women to take full ownership of their brand narrative, market their products consciously, and transform their collective vision into a long-term, self-sustaining enterprise.
