Guidebook for Steppe Pasture Users - FAO

Regenerative Design Example

The Brief

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) commissioned a comprehensive guidebook tailored specifically for shepherds and livestock farmers working in steppe ecosystems. The primary objective of the project was to promote the regenerative management of steppe pastures. The book needed to educate these key users on the intricacies of the steppe ecosystem while providing practical, actionable guidelines for sustainable agricultural applications in the field. We designed the guidebook and illustrated the book as well.

Translating deep, scientific information for a practical, on-the-ground audience requires a highly accessible design strategy. Our main challenge was to present complex ecological data in a way that was engaging, easy to digest, and never overwhelming for the target audience.

To achieve this, we designed a vibrant, colorful guidebook heavily supported by custom illustrations, infographics, and carefully curated photography. We developed a user-friendly layout focused on readability and visual storytelling. By simplifying complex concepts into clear visual assets, we created specific sections where the core message can be fully understood simply by looking at the illustrations. The final result is an inviting, highly functional manual that empowers local producers through clear, accessible design.
